IndianIndian weightlifting had a golden day at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Ahmedabad, with two stars from the 53 kg category making headlines – Koyel Bar and Sneha Soren.
Just 17 years old, Koyel Bar stunned the field with a historic lift of 192 kg (85 kg snatch + 107 kg clean & jerk), setting two new youth world records – in the clean & jerk and total lift. Her performance not only fetched her double gold in the youth and junior sections but also highlighted her as one of India’s brightest future prospects.
In the senior division, Sneha Soren of Odisha continued her consistent run at the top level, winning the silver medal with a total of 185 kg (81 kg snatch + 104 kg clean & jerk). A decorated lifter and Ekalavya Awardee, Sneha once again underlined her reputation as one of India’s most dependable performers.
The two lifters – one an emerging record-breaker, the other an established champion – showed the strength of India’s weightlifting pipeline. With Paris 2028 on the horizon, performances like these prove that Indian weightlifting is on the rise.
