Indian weightlifting icon Mirabai Chanu made a sensational return to the international stage, clinching gold at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Ahmedabad.
Competing in the 48 kg category, Chanu lifted a combined 193 kg (84 kg snatch + 109 kg clean & jerk) โ setting new Commonwealth Championship records in all three sections: snatch, clean & jerk, and total lift.
This victory is extra special as it comes after her year-long break following the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she finished fourth. With a revamped training plan and a switch from the 49 kg to the 48 kg category, Mirabai showed once again why she remains Indiaโs golden girl of weightlifting.
Her triumph also ensures direct qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, giving fans plenty to cheer about.
โจ โThis gold belongs to the people who believed in me. Competing at home made it even more memorable,โ Chanu said after her win.
