FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup: Indian Girls Shine in Malaysia With Fighting Performances

The Indian U16 girls’ basketball team delivered a spirited campaign at the FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup 2025 (Division B) in Seremban, Malaysia, showcasing grit and skill to register crucial victories in the group stage.

India’s highlight came in a thrilling clash against Iran, where they pulled off a narrow 70-67 win. Captain Reva Kulkarni led from the front with a commanding all-round show — 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists — while Mahek Sharma powered inside the paint with a superb 15-point, 13-rebound double-double. Their clutch plays in the closing minutes ensured India crossed the line in a nail-biting finish.

The team also showed resilience in their comeback win over Samoa, overturning a slow start to seize control late in the game. Mahek Sharma again proved decisive with timely baskets and rebounds. Against Uzbekistan, India secured a confident 81-69 victory, fighting back strongly after trailing in the opening quarter to dominate the rest of the match.

Despite an early setback against Lebanon in their opening game, the Indian girls bounced back in style with these back-to-back wins, underlining their potential and fighting spirit on the continental stage.

With Kulkarni’s leadership, Sharma’s inside presence, and a balanced team effort, India’s U16 girls are not only making waves in Malaysia but also building momentum for the future of women’s basketball in the country. Their performances have lifted hopes of a podium finish in Division B and opened the door for greater international recognition.
